Salary Information
Pay Range: $82,416 to $101,340 per year
Average Salary: Around $91,878 per year
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor the environment: Visit different locations to make sure they follow environmental laws.
- Investigate problems: Look into issues, understand how problems are impacting people and places, and make sure problems are fixed.
- Solve environmental issues: Figure out solutions for environmental problems like pollution or contamination.
- Enforce rules: Suggest actions to fix problems, issue warnings, and ensure people follow the laws.
- Work with others: Talk to people, share advice, and explain the rules about protecting the environment.
- Support legal actions: Help with investigations and testify in court if needed.
- Be ready for emergencies: Help respond to environmental emergencies, sometimes outside of normal work hours.
DAILY TASKS
- Inspect factories, businesses, or outdoor areas to make sure everything is environmentally safe.
- Collect samples and check pollution levels using special tools.
- Investigate complaints about things like spills or illegal dumping.
- Write reports about findings and share them with the team and other people or organizations involved.
- Work with others to create solutions for environmental problems.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Education: A university degree in an area such as environmental sciences.
- Training: Extra training to become a certified conservation or environmental enforcement officer can be helpful.
- Other requirements: A valid driver’s license for travelling when doing inspections is an asset.
